Llantrisant Community Route 8-10

Llantrisant CRPage

  • This project was completed for Rhondda Cynon Taff. The purpose of this scheme was to construct a 2km off road shared use cycleway/footway, continuing the cycle network from the ‘Royal Glamorgan Hospital’ at Ynysmaerdy to Coed Ely. The route transformed an overgrown and muddy abandoned railway line into a safe shared use route for the local community to use. The build was a challenging, yet an extremely rewarding project to undertake and is now widely used by the community as a whole. The project included habitat improvement works to accommodate bat colonies.

Works included in this project were site clearance under WAG license, Drainage Surveys & Cleansing environmental & habitat improvements, Capping of contaminated land, Installation of geotextile root barrier to prevent damage Japanese Knotweed, Construction of 2km of cycleway 2.5m in width, Construction of 2km of cycleway 2.5m in width, Drainage improvements and Construction of Culverts & concrete Head walls.

  • Environmental impact was a major concern to the client as most of the existing bridge structures had significant colonies of bats requiring works to be completed under welsh assembly government licence. The former use resulted in large sections of the site being left contaminated and part of the brief was to protect and enhance the route without further disruption and contamination.

  • DURATION 16 Weeks
