Thamescase Riverbridge

  • This project was to re-waterproof an existing highway river bridge that was serving the ‘Smurfit Factory’ situated in Cwmcarn, Caerphilly. The works required weekend and evening shifts as the access was limited from 20.00 hours Friday evening to 04.00 hours the following Monday morning, resulting in coordinating with the factory to liaise a suitable non-working weekend.

During this particular scheme we had to remove the existing surfacing and sand carpet layer. In order to accomplish this we milled the surfacing and sand carpet. Grit blasted the Bridge Deck and removed the remaining existing water proofing system, partnering with a number of specialist contractors.

Once the waterproofing had been replaced successfully we completed the works with a final hot application of emulsion alongside a thin coat of surfacing.

  • The programme was critical to the success of the project as the access was limited from 20.00hrs on the Friday to 04.00hrs on the following Monday morning to ensure the continued operation of the factory.

This project demonstrates Calibre Contracting’s ability to work in partnership with specialist contractors whilst ensuring works are carried out to programme.

This project was successfully completed to program.
