Barry Dock Road (A4231) is a very busy link road in the Vale of Glamorgan and comprising of the construction of traffic signal controlled staggered junction including traffic signal heads and re-alignment of Kerb lines and construction of splitter islands, new central reserve and associated earthworks, drainage, Duct laying, upgrading of Street lighting, road signs and road markings, The surfacing works involved hand laying and machine laying using stone mastic asphalt and the traffic management involved lane closers on the Link road for the duration of the project. The Cycleway link elements 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 comprised of a 3m wide cycle path with a approximate length of 3.3 km linking up the network throughout the county, the project comprised of extensive earthworks along the route and phasing the works in conjunction with the traffic/ pedestrian management plan, involvement throughout these work were the installation of concrete path edgings and duct laying for the improvements at bus stops and junctions. The cycle route had limited access points along the route and required hauling the materials via dump trucks due to the limited access and egress points and we also considered the loading and possible impacts on the existing ground conditions/ movements.
